How to style a table
I scored my very first used furniture for our apartment from a local thrift shop to add something old to my collection of all the new items in the house. I shared the refurbished project along with the before and after results on a blog post last year. However, I didn't get to share with you how I have styled and used it in my apartment.
I initially had it as a TV stand for the second bedroom. For some reason, I wanted to use it as a nightstand next to my bed. This cabinet's height is same as that of a chest of drawer, so it's much higher than a night stand. I was in the market for a bedside table and was temporarily still using two stands from Walmart that cost only $10 each! My husband has already had them, and I'm using them until I can find the perfect replacement!
This refurbished cabinet was a good fit for the location due to it's size and could hold my jewelry and accessories close to my closet. So I used the cabinet in place of one of the side tables. This is how I'm currently using it in my home, and here are tips on how to style a table similar to this. Although these are not strict rules, it's a good guideline to get you started on the right track.
The trick to decorating a stand or table is to use height, shape, form, and function to bring balance to the overall look. Mount a wall decor right above it. This mirror art is the newest addition to our home decor and my latest HomeGoods find! I really wasn't planning on buying a wall mirror since I already have a few. When I ran into this one, I paused and tried to walk away. I almost made it out of the store but alas... it "wooed" me back to it!
Add vertical dimension with the functional use of a night lamp or light. I had matching bedside lamp for both sides. However, the lamp shade was a little too large and compromising the beauty of the mirror by covering more than half of it's face. On a trip to Target, I brought in a smaller table lamp (a task lamp) which is proportional to the mirror, complements the gold in the mirror and the drawer knob, has an adjustable neck to redirect the light, has a dimmer option, and brings in modern lines and curves. I love it's marble base, which I sometimes use as a coaster to hold my water bottle
A pitcher, used as a vase, with fresh or faux flowers add color, style, and variation in shapes. Seriously, could we add flowers in every corner of the house? I would if I could! I used books to give the vase some height and add some personality. A trinket tray in clean lines only accentuates the modern touch to something otherwise contemporary.
Don't hesitate to mix-match and layer art pieces, books, or collectibles. I wanted to keep my table clean and minimal, so I did not layer as much as I normally do. I hope you find these styling tips helpful and can use it in your own lives to prettify things! Thank you so much for visiting and your feedback is always welcome!
