Halloween and Beyond - Part I
With ten more days left till Halloween and autumn season right upon us, I wanted to bring you a series of posts with darker hues and styled details that can help generate ideas and inspiration for your next event. Not all of us like to dress up in Halloween costumes every year. As much as I want to, I don’t always know how to get creative with costumes and Halloween makeup. I know some creatives who can do amazing beauty and gory art that I only wish I could manage! While some of my friends enjoy going out to parties or trick-or-treating with their kids, few of my friends prefer to have a good time with family and friends within the comfort of their own home. Whether you’re one to indulge in well orchestrated entertaining, a warm and cozy Halloween dinner party, or just a simple but scary movie night at your home theater, this inspiration series is for you.
First thing to consider in any event planning is the mood you want to create for your party. The color palette sets the tone for any event, including festive or holiday gathering, birthday party, bridal shower, engagement party, and weddings. How do you choose your colors and pieces when designing and setting a table? Are you going for a light and airy feel or a dark and moody setup? A tablescape, inspired by the idea of a classy and stylish Halloween party, calls for dramatic and darker colors. Think dark burgundy or garnet mixed in with white florals against black and gray tones. These colors are glamorous, passionate and romantic but they can also evoke emotions that are alluring, tempting, and even evoke a sense of foreboding! If you want, throw in some spiders (you will see them on the next post!) or use dark cobwebs as a runner and around your chairs to bring a creepy effect to the table.
In setting up the inspiration table, I’ve used the dark and moody floral centerpiece along with some harvest velvet pumpkin accents. I couldn’t buy enough of these cute and stylish, jewel tone fabric squashes I found at Target! They are great not only for Halloween but the upcoming holiday season as well! The richly colored pumpkins in ruby red or blackberry, deep purple or amethyst, and charcoal add such a fun, yet elegantly festive, touch to the table. Real plums in aubergine tone along with glittery black confetti balls and frosted, winter pine cones table-scatter add to the captivating details! The muted tones of slate and white help offset the moody undertones of the dark colors.
Tapered candles in glass candle sticks add a touch of elegance to any special occasion! The black clean and sleek stoneware from Project 62, mixed with glazed stoneware in soft fog (gray) color adds such a modern vibe! While the smoke gray stemware brings the perfect drama to the moody color scheme, the stainless steel flatware with black handles completes the table-setting!
I hope this modern moody inspiration gets you excited for your next party and provokes your mind for planning the right party or event this winter and holiday season! If you are amidst wedding planning, this jewel tone color palette is also perfect for a moody modern wedding inspiration!
FYI: I ate those plums afterwards!
Next up, a cheese platter for the Halloween inspired coffee table.
