For quite some time I have been thinking about starting an Event or Wedding planning business. In the last few years, I have planned various events for families and friends and have been encouraged to start something of my own on a professional level. Now that I am not working at a 8am-5pm job and have been postponing my efforts on starting a business in a completely separate field, I figured this might be the time to give this small dream of mine a slightly bigger chance. It's demotivating, or rather intimidating, sometimes to ponder over how I could offer anything different when countless businesses are out there offering similar services. The key is - passion and commitment to making someone else's dream come true and seeking emotional fulfillment over monetary satisfaction. I am putting my passion at the forefront for just some fun! I have talked to a few people who might share a similar interest, but I have not had much luck in finding the person I am searching for - a partner. I have been feeling that an event planning business will be more rewarding and fun with a friend who shares similar vision and personality but has a unique perspective on things so we can complement each other. It can be motivating and socially engaging to go together to various shows, pick on each others brains, and bring our ideas together. Now anyone who is thinking about a business in partnership is probably concerned about the fact that there will always be two people who has to agree on most things to move forward or make decisions. It's important to realize that it would take two wise individuals who are highly accountable and who can put the interests of the business before their own. Also, even if both are highly accountable, there is a chance you could be risking your friendship for a more professional relationship.
Bottom line: Duo or Solo? I am contemplating...
